1.1.2a Intro to Sol - 0

1) Today, and from now on, as soon as you get logged into your computer on the first day of the week, you will want to open up your Canvas account and check to make sure you completed and turned in all of the work from last week.
2) Last week you were supposed to make a copy of your time card for this week into your GTT Turn in Folder.  Every week after that, you will want to open that copy up and simply change the week number to it, adding or subtracting points to reflect your efforts in class.  Please do not wait until Friday to start your time card.  Every day when I ask for you to fill out your time card for the day and clean up your area, that would be a great time to fill out your time card and clean up your area.
3) This week you will be playing Sol - 0 as a team with your table mates.  Please start to answer the questions on 1.1.2a Intro to Sol - 0 before getting to far into your launch.  If at any time, your game locks up or is slow to load, please use that time to go to the Internet to learn more about actually living on Mars.  Research the planet itself and what research is being done to help humans survive there.

1.1.2 Intro to Engineering

Today, You will want to watch the first video showing you how to open today's assignment, then once you have the worksheet for today saved in your GTT Turn in Folder, leave the copy with your initials open so that you can complete it while watching the 2nd video - watch the 2nd video while filling out your worksheet.

Please submit your worksheet online using Canvas at the end of class. You are not being graded on the content of this worksheet and it is okay if you did not complete it. I am looking to see that you know how to download, open, fill in, save and upload assignments for this class. Please listen for all verbal instructions as glitches are found by other students.

Course Objectives:
This year in Project Lead the Way’s: Gateway to Technology, students will cover four foundation units each with its own set of tasks that are to be completed. There will be an overarching theme of “Mission to Mars” but all skills will be applicable to many existing engineering fields.

Design & Modeling
Students apply the design process to solve problems and understand the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They work in teams to design tools, furniture and living modules for use on Mars.  They will be bringing home several items throughout the course that will be created on our 3d printers, CNC Carvey machine, vinyl cutter and even our LASER Engraver.
Science of Technology
Science impacts the technology of yesterday, today, and the future. Students apply the concepts of mathematics, physics, and technology to hands on projects, including the design and manufacture of an air powered dragster that will be raced against other students.

Magic of Electrons
Through hands-on projects, students explore electricity, the behavior and parts of atoms, and sensing devices. They learn knowledge and skills in basic circuitry design, and examine the impact of electricity on the world around them.
Automation & Robotics
Students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics® platform to design, build, and program physical machines such as Mars rovers, excavators, bull dozers and fork lifts.
